Movie Review: Hot Fuzz

Rating: VERY COOL

The funny Brits who brought you “Sean of The Dead” offer up a solid send-up of bloody awful buddy cop flicks with a proper does of understated sly humor, slick editing and winking nods to everything from Scooby Doo to the that over-hyped ass Tarantino. It’s a fish-out-of-the-water film where London super-cop Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) is reassigned to the country where he must deal with a slower pace of life and investigate a series of ghastly “accidents.” Nick Frost (everyone’s favorite fat zombie) shines as Angel’s dim-witted, man-child partner who worships the classics “Point Break” and “Bad Boys II” while constantly feeding his face.

Many fans of “Sean” were a bit disappointed in this follow-up to the smash indie hit, but if you can distance yourself from the high expectations, this fun little movie (that pokes fun at itself as much as the genre its spoofing) definitely stands on its own — showing a deft and restrained comedic touch from director Edgar Wright and impressive range from Simon Pegg playing against type.
